Basis valuation at nodal and zonal power locations
Value power deals at the nodal and zonal locations EOX publishes curves for, across the major US power markets, and see how each location's forwards have compared with its own day-ahead settlements.
What goes in, what comes out
The deal
- The location, as named in your power curves, and the term
- A fixed-price swap, a PPA or a battery, with its usual inputs
- On-peak, off-peak or around-the-clock, and buy or sell
- Or a book of basis positions on the Portfolio page, marked contract by contract
The results
- Value month by month on the location's own forward curve
- Hourly shaping and day-ahead backtests where EOX loads that location's day-ahead history
- The location against its hub: forward basis and realized day-ahead basis, month by month
- Mark-to-market and value at risk for basis positions alongside the rest of the book
Locations with day-ahead history include trading hubs, load zones, interfaces and individual nodes in each market EOX covers. Every entitlement applies as it does to the curves themselves.
Example
A 25 MW on-peak swap at NODE1, 12 months, and the same location against HUB1 over the past year:
NODE1 and HUB1 are placeholders and values are illustrative.
Use it from
Python
from eoxlive import EOX
eox = EOX("YOUR_KEY")
res = eox.value_deals([{"type": "swap", "iso": "ISO1", "market": "NODE1", "block": "on", "quantity": 25,
"price": 42.00, "start": "2027-01", "end": "2027-12"}])
res["deals"][0]["total"]
REST
curl -H "X-API-Key: YOUR_KEY" \
"https://api.eoxlive.com/v1/analytics/forward-vs-realized?iso=ISO1&market=NODE1&basis_to=HUB1&months=12"
Or in the browser, on the Valuation and Portfolio pages, signed in with your EOX account.
Questions
- Which locations can I value?
- Any power location in your subscription. Locations whose day-ahead history EOX loads also get hourly shaping, backtests and realized basis; the result says which applied.
- Can I see basis against a hub?
- Yes. Compare a location with its hub month by month, on forward marks and on day-ahead settlements, in the browser, Python or REST.
- Can basis positions go in a book?
- Yes. The Portfolio page marks them with the rest of the book and includes them in value at risk.
- Is this a valuation opinion?
- No. It is the deal's value on EOX forward curves for your own analysis.
Included with your subscription. The tools use the curves, vols and correlations your subscription already covers, under the same entitlements, and are never charged for separately. Results are for information only; values shown on this page are illustrative.
